I think the guide-to-guest ratio is higher with this outfit then with other companies going down the river, price was also competitive. Our group opted for a guide in the raft run of the Lower Yough in early Sept.
I was on the fence about whether to go with the guided option or not. The run itself feels easy (but that's only because we had a guide). There are lulls where you can go swimming which is nice, and then 4-5 sections where you want to execute a move correctly else run the chance of flipping/etc.
If it's your first time, maybe get the guide like we did, even though you can do it without. Then the next time you go, you know what to expect, and can try without a guide. River levels will also change the run, so while I considered our run to be engaging, yours might be more or less challenging.
I will say that we were short a few people because of legit last minute reasons they couldn't make it, and still getting charged for them was frustrating. Some slack should be given here, all good plans don't always work out. I don't expect a complete refund or anything, but simply saying hey, sucks for you, isn't great customer service either. Find a better balance, like hey we'll refund you 20%.
So overall a great experience, great guides, a little room for improvement on the part of customer service, and I would choose this outfit again in the future.
